New York, NY–The aura in the Big Apple was nothing less than sophisticated as this particular evening many were celebrating all the amazing mothers of the world. What better way to pay tribute to these “Wonder Women” on the eve of our special day than to be blessed with the soulful, captivating vocals of Mr. Dave Hollister.
Since being an integral part of 90’s R&B platinum recording quartet Blackstreet, Hollister has continued to plateau in his solo career releasing eight albums including his 1999 debut smash Ghetto Hymns and follow-up sophomore release Chicago ‘85…The Movie both earning the artist certified Gold status.
Though his highly anticipated 2002 third release Things In The Game Done Changed did not receive the reviews it deserved, it secured its spot as Billboard’s third Top R&B/HipHop album of the year. Under the guidance of multi-platinum producer and musical mastermind Tank the velvety duo together with other hit makers created a project that would equal his unwavering singing style.
In his 2003 fourth LP Real Talk, Hollister delivered true to its title with down-to-earth context of everyday life scenarios and situationships before alluding back to his gospel roots. Proceeding projects The Book Of David: Vol.1-The Transition and Witness Protection later lead the talented vocalist to United Tenors, a gospel powerhouse group featuring Fred Hammond, Eric Roberson, and Brian Courtney Wilson that became a blessed union.
Now at 54, this outstanding singer, songwriter, producer remains in the spotlight enjoying the adoration of his fans doing what he loves with ease alongside an extraordinarily gifted group of performers.
This evening, New York City Winery welcomed the suave crooner opening to funky track “Geometry” off his 2016 eighth album The Manuscript in refined unison with his fierce band making the attractive venue rock true grown-folk style.
Jamming to bumping single “Keep Lovin’ You” off album Things In The Game Done Changed Hollister’s hit roster included paying tribute to the bird man himself Morris Day and the late great James Brown taking the vibrating crowd back to some good old-fashioned throwback music.
Simmering down the flow, the robust tenor delivered a sleek version of Blackstreet’s classic “No Diggity” then got down to the nitty gritty with his crew off several tracks from his 2003 fourth album Real Talk before handing off the mic to showcase just a handful his phenomenal entourage.
Chadney Christle performed a sonorous version of Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings” followed by one-of-a-kind quivering sets of Chaka’s “Tell Me Something Good“, Tank’s “When We” sung bad-ass style from Hollister’s groundbreaking team of vocalists, a fire solo from guitarist Darius Johnson together with a flawless finale to Usher’s “Good Kisser” he helped create tied in the entire production impeccably.
