Then the “Empress of Soul” together with her band took center stage in true powerhouse formation opening to a mix of classic renditions and very own hits paying homage to greats like the late Marvin Gaye with “I Want You”, “Love Overboard” and “Nitty Gritty Dance and Shout” having star struck fans jamming in their seats.
Softening the mood, she eloquently serenaded “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me” and “In This Life” donning her beautiful radiant smile taking moments to engage with admirers on life’s never ending lessons and how important family is before bouncing back to her groove on “Make Yours A Happy Home”, “The Makings Of You” and “Imagination” belting out her signature velvety contralto we all adore.
Speaking on love’s experiences, the seven-time Grammy award winning songstress took her devoted listeners on an heart rending voyage with “I Can’t Make you Love Me”, “Help Me Make It Through The Night”, along with tender all-time hits “Neither One Of Us” and “The Way We Were/Try To Remember” moving the sold-out venue before calling upon a very special guest.
Multi award winning gospel singer extraordinaire minister Donnie McClurkin graced the scene to roars of praise, sharing the spotlight with the beautifully seasoned Knight on a worship medley that rose the entire theater to their feet taking them to church. With his robust range paired with hers, it was truly a match made in heaven.
Mrs. Gladys ended the finale with amazing performances to “Midnight Train To Georgia” followed by “On And On” making it clear her love for music still resonates profoundly in her soul and just like fine wine, she only gets better with time.
